Recently, I wrote about seven key basics that make planning outfits a cinch. A capsule wardrobe is a similar idea. A capsule wardrobe is a collection of clothes and accessories that includes only items considered essential. The pieces should compliment each other in order to create multiple outfits.
Planning a capsule wardrobe is a great way to take stock of what you have in your closet and to discover what you need. Basically, you want every item to be able to work in at least two different outfits. For instance, a capsule wardrobe should contain:
1 pair black pants
1 black skirt
1 black jacket
3 different colored tops
With the right accessories, these six items can take you from the office and to a night out on the town. Buying good quality basics will save you money in the long run because you wont have to keep replacing worn out pieces every few months. Also, focusing on accessories will let you quickly change your look and stay on trend without investing in a new wardrobe every season.
