Letters and Pen Pals

If you want a letter, you need to write a letter. Get a pen pal!

I love getting letters in the mail, but you know what they say: The best way to get a letter is to write one. Enter International Geek Girl Pen Pal Club, a website dedicated to all things geeky. Every month, IGGPPC matches pen pals based on their interests, age, and gender. IGGPPC, also, hosts monthly swaps for things like tea, socks, stickers, and greeting cards.

If you’re more interested in receiving mail rather than in corresponding with someone, Postcrossing is the place to go to mail and receive postcards from around the world. Postcrossing, also, lets you keep track of who has sent you postcards as wells as postcards you have sent. You can even keep track of postcards you’ve received by uploading pictures of them to your postcard wall.

Finally, The World Needs More Love Letters is a fantastic way to spread some letter love. The movement encourages people to leave random love letters where people can find them. You can, also, nominate someone to receive a love letter bundle as well as write to those requesting love letters.

While receiving a letter in the mail from a pen pal is always a delight, shopping for supplies is pretty fun, too.

From stickers to cards, here are some pen pal supplies to get you started.

Notecards are my jam, especially when they come in a boxed set. The Botani-call or Write Stationery Set and All-Occasion Notecard Set will give you plenty of options to get started. Make your letters extra special with the Emoji Sticker Set and Happy Stamper Wax Seal Kit in Mind. Don’t forget a way to keep all of the lovely cards you will receive. The Metal Photo Clip String Set would be an awesome way to display them.

  1. I’ve had a few over the years but I don’t right now. I would like to again, it is so much fun. Definitely want to arrange something.

  2. I haven’t had a pen pal in a very long time. There was only one person who I ever wrote regularly too, and as we got older the letters got less and less, and then just became birthday and christmas cards, and then nothing.

I never thought of looking to a pen pal service through the internet, even though I do a christmas card exchange on my blog each year.

Postcards sound fun – i love finding really unique ones in my travels.

  3. I’ve had a pen pal for about three years now. I just don’t really call him that anymore, because it feels weird to me. He’s really my best friend. We met through a rather unconventional way.

I’m glad you posted the Geek Girl Pen Pals site. Never heard of it before, but I’ve already signed up!

  4. Love this post and letters. It reminds of the movie, Her. Joaquin Phoenix’s main character writes letters as his day job.

I did a pen pal exchange during the high school days which was fun for awhile. The postcard and love letter options look like interesting ones to try.

  5. I can’t believe that today I had the first chance to come over and visit your blog, and I see this Post Header!!! I was in the shower (thinking, it’s where I do it best) and the thought that crossed my mind was….. Blogging is like having a multitude of Pen Pals. I had one when I was in grammar school in London, he lived in France. It was a fun time in my life. Then many years later, I start to blog and OH my I start to become a part of a large network of a community. We chat and support each other and read each others posts. I love it, and I love this. Also thank you for the recommendations for papers, our oldest will be off to the West Coast in the Fall and I want to write letters and note cards to her. I have been collecting some odd ones, and I will check out your recommendations.
