Reading: Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell by Susanna Clarke. So far, the book has been a little slow, but I want to finish the book before watching the new BBC series. I recently finished Ross Poldark By Winston Graham and The Elite by Kiera Cass. They are two completely different books, but I enjoyed them both.

Watching: Dr. Quinn. Medicine Woman. I’ve been on a cheesy romance kick that started with the Hallmark Channel’s When Calls the Heart and somehow moved on to Dr. Quinn. Somebody hold me back before I start to move out West to become a pioneer woman.

Vlogging: I was tagged by the amazing Sara Ella to do the BookTuber Shoutouts Tag!

Listening to: Andy Grammer’s Honey, I’m Good. This song was playing all the time while I was in Georgia earlier this month, and now, I am addicted.

Sewing: Dresses! Earlier this year I won a giveaway from Kollabora and have finally started using the patterns I received. One of the patterns was the Hazel dress from Colette Patterns. I finished it Saturday just in time to wear to the German-American Festival. Now, on to the next dress!

Currently... reading, sewing, and so much more.

Wearing: The Crystal Pavé Hoop Earrings from my Chloe + Isabel boutique. They are my new favorite earrings, and I love that they have rhinestones on the inside and the outside of the hoops. #extrasparkle

Thinking about: How much blogging has changed since I started in 2008. Social media. SEO. Bloggers don’t just blog anymore, but need to know about promotion and keywords and analyzing statics while posting informative content with magazine worthy pictures. Sometimes, even with my small blog, I feel overwhelmed, but even so, I still love blogging.

Swapping: Summertime things with Rae from Insolence and Wine. We were paired up through Local Adventurer’s Lovely Letters. The theme was Vacation/Staycation, so in July, we exchanged postcards, and this month we sent each other packages featuring local goodies. I feel so spoiled! Rae’s package brightened my day. I don’t know how anyone could not be thrilled with a box of California goodness. Plus, she’s a fuzzy sock lover, too!

Currently loving... blogger swaps!

  1. That dress is adorable! I’m so jealous of your skills :). I’ve always wanted to learn to sew, but never quite got started. Well, besides buying a machine to collect dust.
I had to laugh at your pioneer woman comment. Those shows really can make it look amazing!

  2. Jonathan Strange is one of my bf’s favourite books and he has been wanting me to read it for (seemingly) forever! I think I might find it a bit slow too, but I think I’ll appreciate the writing and I’m curious about the tv show.

Also, lovely dress! That’s amazing that you sewed it yourself!

  3. I feel like I largely ignore all the stuff bloggers are ‘supposed’ to know…which probably explains why my blog is not gigantic. haha!
Dr. Quinn! That sure brings back memories–my parents watched it often when I was growing up.

  4. You’re inspiring me to sew, which is a skill I’m eager to learn. While I know what you’re referring to about blogging, I’m resisting the pressure to GO BIG and am, instead, simply enjoying my little piece of online real estate. I’m content to have a dozen or two friends visit and chat. No sponsors, no big crowds.

  5. Is the Poldark TV show based on this Winston Graham book? Everyone’s been saying it’s amazing! And I’m so jealous you sewed that dress. I just bought a sewing machine to learn how to sew. I have never done it before.

  6. Oh! I’ve tried to read Johnathan Strange and Mr. Norell and found it a bit slow too, but you trying it makes me think maybe I should pick it up again for another go at it.

Also- how cool you are sewing clothing.

  7. I agree, blogging is like a second job (without the pay, lol) there is so much to do and stay on top of! You made a seriously beautiful dress! I’m always impressed when people make things that look store bought, especially clothing. Also, I love your video!
