All the day long,
Whether rain or shine,
She’s a part of the assembly line.
She’s making history,
Working for victory,
Rosie the Riveter.
Keeps a sharp lookout for sabotage,
Sitting up there on the fuselage.
That little girl will do more than a male will do…
– “Rosie the Riveter” by Redd Evans and John Jacob Loeb
For Halloween last year, I was Rosie the Riveter, but since I did not post about it, I spent yesterday recreating the look to share on the blog. Rosie the Riveter is an awesome, American, cultural icon from World War II representing the women who worked in factories and shipyards while men were away fighting. I love Rosie the Riveter not just because she is a strong, female character but because I love her 40’s style and how easy it is to recreate.
This year has been the year of denim and chambray, and I just can’t get enough. Rosie is a fabulous excuse to grab your favorite pair of jeans and chambray shirt (or denim jumpsuit!) and wear it as your costume. Of course, the key to this look is a scarf worn as a turban and retro red lipstick. Watch this video if you need help tying your scarf.
