A Downton Abbey Tea

This week was my mom’s birthday, and to celebrate, we went to a local tea room.  We are both fans of Downton Abbey, so we couldn’t resist the opportunity to attend a Downton Abbey tea. The chintzy, little tea room was filled with adults of all ages playing dress up, and for nearly two and a half hours, we talked and laughed and drank copious amounts of tea.

While my mom didn’t dress up, I couldn’t resist the opportunity to wear a costume. I made this dress last year and was happy to finally have an excuse to wear it.

We were given a choice of teas and decided on the Vanilla Comoro and Hot Cinnamon Spice.

Both teas were delicious!

I gobbled up the Kensington Palace Scones in a most unladylike manner.

I’m morally opposed to peas, but the Chicken Tenderloin with White Wine Caper Sauce on Rice was still good.

Who knew finger food could be so filling?

I was quite stuffed by the time this Dark Chocolate Bread Pudding with Salted Caramel Sauce arrived, so in typical American fashion, I took the leftovers home in a box.

  1. I love afternoon tea! Last year, I went to three places in NYC similar to this one. Such a wonderful environment for chatting with girlfriends. Glad you got to do this with your mom. Kudos for dressing up so nice.
