Something happened when I turned 30 last year. I started feeling very old whenever I browsed the juniors department. I took offense at being called ma’am instead of celebrating that good manners are not completely dead in this world. I decided I’d never truly be an adult unless I could pass myself off as a sophisticated lady. Whatever that means.
After attempting flower arranging, I decided it was time to tackle another ladylike field, perfume. After a little research, I discovered Scent Trunk, a monthly fragrance subscription box from Canada that offers unique fragrances from independent perfumers.
After taking a short survey about the scents and perfumes I like, my scent profile was narrowed down to whitefloral, animalic, floral. I was eager to see what they would send me and was surprised by the scents I received.

The Scent Trunk Perfumes
This was my least favorite of the three. The scent made me think of men’s cologne, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but the scent was too heavy for me.
This was a middle of the road fragrance for me. The only thing special about this one is the price tag. However, it does have a very ladylike scent, although it’s more rich grandmother than lady of the manor.
This was my favorite of the three. I love gardenias, and one of my favorite fragrances is Kai, so I was very happy with Hothouse Flower. The scent is light and fresh and perfect for a lady who lunches.
Thoughts on Scent Trunk
While I really only liked one out of the three perfumes sent to me, I do think this subscription is a nice way to try new fragrances. Samples often cost $4 to $5, so Scent Trunk’s price seems reasonable, especially since you are getting perfumes that are not mass produced. I, also, like that 1.5% of sales goes towards the Brain and Behaviour Research Foundation, whose goal is to identify causes, improve treatments and one day prevent and cure mental illness.
As with every personalized service, the more you use it, the better your matches should be. The vials are the perfect size for travel, and I like that the info cards give more information about each perfume. Plus, it’s nice to find a subscription box that offers free shipping to the US, Canada, and the UK.
I tried Scent Trunk thanks to a free trial they were offering and only paid for shipping. That offer is still currently available here.
