As soon as I saw the Red Velvet Heart Cookies on the cover of Better Homes & Gardens, I knew I had to make them. The cookies look like the perfect Valentine’s Day treat. Plus, I love anything red velvet.
I made a few adjustments to the recipe, cutting the sugar in half and consequently not adding the full amount of cocoa. Since I am eating mostly gluten-free, I used gluten free flour instead of all-purpose.
I used a vegetable based red food coloring, so my cookies do not have the bright red like the ones in the magazine.
