Life Lately: April Showers

Life lately... Here's a look at what I've been reading, watching, and doing the last month.

Making: Umbrella bouquet/wreath. I totally stole this idea from a neighbor. I used my free-with-purchase umbrella from Victoria’s Secret and flowers from Hobby Lobby to create the perfect door decor for the rainy month of April. Use a rubber band and ribbon over the umbrella to hold the flowers in.

Reading: A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas. The second book in this trilogy does not disappoint. I need book three ASAP, but it doesn’t come out for a few more weeks.

Watching: Beauty and the Beast. I’ve been counting down to this movie for the last year, and it did not disappoint. Luke Evans and Josh Gad as Gaston and LeFou totally stole the show, in my opinion. But, then there was that song that Dan Stevens sang… Sigh.

Listening to: Missing Richard Simmons. This podcast was a minor addiction last month. It made me think a lot about celebrity, fame, loyalty, and friendship. How do you know when somebody is really your friend? What do celebrities owe the public?

Judging: #BlogHer17 entries. Last year, I was a BlogHer Voices of the Year Honoree, and this year I got the pleasure of judging two rounds of entries for the 2017 conference. So much good stuff! Judging was really hard.

  2. I am in love with that Umbrella wreath. Seriously adorable! I’ve wanted to check out Missing Richard Simmons, just haven’t had time quite yet. Soon I think!

  3. I love your umbrella wreath! What a cute idea! And perfect because it has not stopped pouring here all day!

That’s amazing that you are judging blogher submissions — what an incredible opportunity!

  4. The umbrella wreath is perfection. I have that same umbrella from VS!
Gaston and LeFou did steal the show in Beauty and the Beast. I want to see it again!

  5. I need to make that umbrella/wreath ASAP! It’s so cute! I for sure agree the LaFou and Gaston were the stars of that movie! Loved it.

  6. Oh! That door bouquet is gorgeous!

And yes, I liked a Court of Mist and Fury even more than the first one. I like the growth Maas allows her characters. I’m anxious for the next book though! Plus, I don’t think it is a trilogy; I read somewhere that it is a longer series, which I have mixed feelings about. The Throne of Glass books are like that too and I’ve stopped reading the series. It became too much to keep track of what was happening in the series.

And yes, I quite enjoyed BatB too. Not sure it needed to be remade, but I liked it. The costumes and sets especially (and LeFou).

So, you enjoyed Richard Simmons is Missing? I’ve been seeing adverts for it…

    1. Gah, I’m not ready for another long series! Originally, I saw the third book listed as the final for the series, but I see that it’s changed. I’m loving the books, but I need resolution!

  7. What a cute wreath idea Ashley, perfect color scheme for spring. I’m thinking about going to see Beauty and the Beast by myself this weekend. It was my favorite cartoon when I was a kid.

  8. I totally think Josh Gad stole the show. & I was scared how Dan Stevens singing voice was going to be – but so impressed with it.
I am so sad Missing Richard Simmons is over!
    That umbrella idea is ADORABLE!!!!

  9. Love your wreath! Now I totally want to make one! 🙂 I loved A Court of Thorns and Roses. I bought A Court of Mist and Fury a while back but never got around to it… which is crazy. I think I need to re-read the first so I can fly through the 2nd and soon the 3rd! I gave the first one to a friend and she sped through it. It was crazy. She’s read the second one and just keeps texting me OMG!! hehe excited to pick it back up! Beauty and the Beast was great, La Fou was my favorite too! The seets/scenery were probably the best part for me though! Have a great weekend! XO – Alexandra

  10. i think i need to see B&tB again to appreciate the song Dan Stevens sang.. I enjoyed at first but thought it went on a bit too long haha. bit mean, i know. i’m sure i’ll feel differently if i see it again. the guy who played Gaston was fantastic.
i haven’t read Sarah J Maas’ other series because I can’t stand waiting for things. I will read it when it’s finished! I am impatiently waiting for the last book in her other series because I started that one even though i knew i shouldn’t lol.
