Life Lately: Hello August

From Jeni's Ice Creams to books I'm reading, here's a look at life lately.

Life lately…

Eating: Brambleberry Sorbet and Riesling Poached Pear Sorbet from Jeni’s Ice Creams. I’ve heard amazing things about Jeni’s, but this past weekend was the first time I got to go there. It is worth the hype and a must stop if you are in Columbus.

Making: Two-Cheese Squash Casserole and this “ice cream”. The banana “ice cream” has become my go-to snack. It tastes sinful but is actually pretty healthy.

Reading: So many books. I finished Sarah Domet’s The Guineveres this week and really liked the moody coming of age tale. (See my review here.) I’m, also, reading One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest and Anne of Avonlea.

Listening to: Despacito (remix). I listen to this song all the time now because it reminds me of being in college and dancing the night away.

Watching: Audrey Hepburn movies. How to Steal a Million is on Netflix and Breakfast at Tiffany’s is on Amazon Prime.

Pageanting: Crowning Ms. Captivating 2018. I’ll post more about the pageant next week, but for now, I’ll say that last weekend was very eventful.

Blogging: Love yourself where you’re atWhat’s inside my last three Ipsy Glam Bags, The Growing SeasonWhat I’m packing for pageant weekendThis one’s for the dreamers.

  1. I just realized there is an adorable gelato shop 2 blocks from my house. I don’t like ice cream because it’s dairy based and hurts my tummy but gelato is A-OK in my book. I need to read One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest again. Mmmm I’m a huge lover of all things Audrey Hepburn, my favorite is My Fair Lady. I loved seeing all of your pageant pictures.

  2. I love How to Steal a Million, but (and, yes, I’m in the minority here) Breakfast at Tiffany’s leaves me cold. Each to their own 😉

All your book pics sound great! I’m (trying) to read the 3 Musketeers. I read it when I was younger but find it harder now…. I think it is that it is such a dense book (the most beautiful language) so it is slow going and that is frustrating with my more limited reading time.

  3. I could go for some good sorbet right now! I’ve got a cold and I bet the cool sorbet would feel great on my throat. I’m looking forward to reading more about your pagent!

  4. OMG, Despacito… it’s forever in my head, too, and always reminds me of college, too 🙂 I love that song.

I can’t wait to hear more about the pageant–your pictures were beautiful!

Two cheese squash casserole?! Sounds delicious!

  5. I have listened to a parody of Despacito and it’s called I love my Speedo…I cannot get enough of it. Goes to show you my maturity level but whatever it’s hilarious. So every time the song comes on I cannot stop hearing the man singing Speedo. HILARIOUS.

  6. I love that that ice cream place puts a bit of waffle cone in it! Just saw Breakfast at Tiffany’s for the first time last fall and really enjoyed it! I think it was the only Hepburn movie I’ve seen? Also I loved One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. Well, maybe loved isn’t the right word- it left me with a LOT of emotions. The movie is also worth a watch. Interested to hear what you think of it when you finish!

  7. the banana ice cream is so easy and tasty! we eat that a lot in the summer normally, but haven’t recently. will have to change that! The Guineveres is on my list!
