Adulting 101: This book will show you how to set a table

From Tuesday takeout to a seated dinner party, this small, cloth-covered book is chock-full of creative inspiration and will tell you how to set a table.

I don’t do a lot of entertaining, but I hoard books on cooking, entertaining, and etiquette. The most recent addition to my collection is How to Set a Table by Potter (c/o Blogging for Books). This small, cloth-covered book is chock-full of creative ways to set a table. From Tuesday takeout to a seated dinner party, there are beautiful photos that will inspire you to pull out the good china for every occasion. And, if you don’t know a charger from a dessert plate, there’s a section that explains dinnerware basics.

With the holidays approaching, I’m dreaming of new dinnerware: turkey, tartan, white, marble, and dot.

I once read that you should only buy white dinnerware because you will always be able to mix and match white pieces. What’s your favorite tip when it comes to setting the table?

  1. I took an etiquette class (even though I struggle to spell etiquette). Definitely changed the way I think about such things. My best tip when setting a kitchen table for dinner: Turn off the TV. Spongebob is an unwelcome dinner guest.

  2. Looks like a great book. My table tends to look like a hodge podge of different crockery so it could do with smartening up! I’m sure I could make it look much nice when people came over!

  3. I like the idea of having white plates and adding color, texture, etc. with flowers, accessories, etc. It seems a neutral palette is always timeless. I am terrible at setting a formal table, this book would def. be helpful!

  4. I rmemebr learning the order the cutlery goes in and not much else about settign a table, haha!

I do think the all-white dinner set rules is a good one though, only as with two little toddlers we’ve lost and replaced our fair share of plates and bowls, and you can’t really tell as they are all white!

I hope that you are having a lovely weekend! Cold and wet here, not so nice ๐Ÿ™
