Catch up on The Crown

Right now, everyone is talking about Stranger Things, but the Netflix show I'm excited about is The Crown.

Right now, everyone is talking about Stranger Things, but the Netflix show I’m excited about is The Crown. The second season of this series drops December 8th with Claire Foy and Matt Smith returning as Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip.

More than just a costume drama, The Crown deals with the push and pull of duty and family as Edward VIII abdicates, George VI dies, and Elizabeth struggles to find her way as queen.

When I saw that Blogging for Books was offering The Crown: The Official Companion, Volume 1: Elizabeth II, Winston Churchill, and the Making of a Young Queen (1947-1955) by Robert Lacey for review, I jumped at the chance to get my copy.

Robert Lacey is the show’s historical consultant as well as a royal biographer. In the official companion, he offers the historical background that inspired the first season of the show and explains where the show differed from history. As a history buff, I loved reading about what was true and what was invented for the series.

Plus, the book is filled with pictures both historical and from the series. I wish there had been more colored photos as most are black and white, including those from the series. However, the pictures are beautiful.

I really enjoyed this book and can’t wait to watch season 2 of The Crown!

This book was sent to me by Blogging for Books in exchange for an honest review.

  2. I’ve heard such good things about this show and I really need to start watching it. I was so excited to hear Olivia Colman would be taking over the role of the queen.

  3. I’ve heard so many great things about this show, but I’ve never watched it, I tend to look for lighthearted comedies when I do get a rare moment for watching netflix. The book sounds like a great read for anyone who is a fan of the show though 🙂

  4. I have to confess, I also love The Crown! It differs a bit from history (and can I say that? Maybe…I have a master’s in British history :), but the main points are really there. Great to have season 2! Hope you have a lovely week!
