BookSparks Fall Reading Challenge: London, Can You Wait?

Are you a bookworm looking for a new read? You’re in luck! It’s senior year of the BookSparks Fall Reading Challenge! We started off with The Cottingley Secret by Hazel Gaynor then followed it up with Glennon Doyle’s popular memoir, Love Warrior, Ali Land’s thriller, Good Me Bad Me, Kris Radish’s Western, A Dangerous Woman from Nowhere, LB Gschwandtner’s coming of age novel, The Other New Girl, and Anne Leigh Parrish’s multi-generational novel, Women Within. For extra credit, we ventured abroad with Christine Evelyn Volker’s mystery, Venetian Blood. And, today’s final book takes us to London with Jacquelyn Middleton’s new novel, London, Can You Wait?

The university themed BookSparks Fall Reading Challenge continues with a study abroad selection, London, Can You Wait? by Jacquelyn Middleton.

From the Amazon:

Alex loves Mark. Mark loves Alex. But is love enough?
Since moving to London from the US, twenty-four-year-old Alex Sinclair seems to have it all: a coveted job writing for the theatre, supportive friends, and the man of her dreams–gorgeous Irish actor, Mark Keegan. But in the year since the acclaimed debut of her play, Alex and Mark’s lives have been turned upside down.

Thanks to his role on a smash-hit British TV show, Mark is catapulted to stardom. Alex couldn’t be happier until her boyfriend’s popularity and insatiable drive to succeed means they’re apart more than they’re together. Forced to share Mark with showbiz heavy-hitters, intrusive press, and unrelenting fangirls, Alex’s hopes for a stable and committed life with him start to fade. Her struggles with panic attacks, career uncertainty, and Mark’s increasingly worrisome behaviour make her wonder: how much more can she bend before she breaks?

A passionate tale of secrets, loss, and ambition, London, Can You Wait? is the eagerly-awaited sequel to Middleton’s debut novel, London Belongs to Me.

My thoughts on London, Can You Wait?

I really enjoyed Jacquelyn Middleton’s first novel, London Belongs To Me, so I was happy to see that she continues Alex’s London adventures in her new book. You don’t have to read the books in order, but it does help you know who the characters are. Alex is now a working playwright while her boyfriend is embracing his new found fame. Can their relationship handle the ups and downs of their careers and time apart?

As an actor, I love that the story offers a glimpse of life in the entertainment biz. Plus, there are tons of geeky, pop culture references, which are fun. Quick confession: I’m still in the middle of this book as I’ve fallen behind on everything this month, including reading. However, I’m finding London, Can You Wait? just as enjoyable as the first book.

This book was sent to me for review and is part of BookSparks Fall Reading Challenge.

  1. It sounds like an interesting book, and it’s great you’re enjoying it even if you haven’t made it to the end yet. Understandable, things get so busy near Christmas!

Hope you had a wonderful weekend and your Christmas preparation is going well. We’d planned to attend a few Christmas events but the boys got sick which meant a weekend at home. I got to wrap some pressies though! 🙂
