The Lone Ranger is not the feel good, action-adventure I was expecting. It’s dark and disturbing but, also, funny. Johnny Depp is brilliant as Tonto and his character guides Armie Hammer’s John Reid on his journey to becoming the Lone Ranger. The cinematography is a delight and makes full use of breathtaking locations. In fact, there is no better advertisement for the American West. Tourism offices take note. Penny Rose, an alum of the Pirates of the Caribbean series, is the wardrobe designer for The Lone Ranger. Wrapping the characters in muted, earth tones, the costumes compliment this scenic Wild West.
My favorite look from the movie is John Reid’s city-boy take on western wear. Dressed in blue, black, and brown with a hint of red, the well tailored John Reid turns seeking justice into a stylish endeavor.
In 1956, when divorced, working-mom Ava Lark rents a house with her twelve-year-old son, Lewis, in a Boston suburb, the neighborhood is less than welcoming. Lewis yearns for his absent father, befriending the only other fatherless kids: Jimmy and Rose. One afternoon, Jimmy goes missing. The neighborhood in the era of the Cold War, bomb […]
IFB Project #100 asks bloggers to create a list post. I decided to focus on designer pieces I think every woman should own, especially me. Mixing classic pieces with some current favorites, I looked for pieces that could flatter a number of body types while, also, looking timeless. Can anyone go wrong with a trench […]
I went to see Man of Steel last night. It’s really good. Re-imagining this iconic hero as a gritty wanderer traveling a world much like our own made this super man much more accessible. Steering clear of the cheesy I-don’t-recognize-him-because-he-wears-glasses, Man of Steel is a character driven film stuffed with mental Kryptonite while still packing […]
My infatuation with Cinderella shoes has been well documented (see here and here). Enter Stuart Weitzman. Not only is the designer responsible for making Cinderella’s glass slippers for the Broadway musical, he has, also, created a line inspired by the fairy tale princess. My favorite is Asteroid, which reminds me of the classic Disney version; […]

I’m not sure how it happened, but somehow I managed to see Star Trek Into Darkness twice the week it came out but didn’t see The Great Gatsby until last night. I didn’t like the book when I read it in high school. (I believe my thoughts were along the lines of boring and depressing.) […]
This week’s IFB Project asks bloggers to share their favorite clutches. My current favorite is the Rebecca Minkoff Mini MAC Bag. It has made previous appearances in outfit posts (here and here) and is my go-to bag of the moment. A Rebecca Minkoff bag has been on my wish list for a long time, and last year’s Rebecca […]
I’ve been so scatter brained the last few days I forgot to mention my guest post over at fashionprive. It’s all about building a handbag wardrobe starting with five basic styles. Go check it out! Valentino Rockstud Small PVC Lock Crossbody Bag What are your top five handbags?
It’s finally staring to feel like spring, but my closet still looks like winter. This post may look familiar to a few of you since it’s a reboot of a tutorial from my old blog, but it’s Earth Month, and recycling is good. Plus, there is no need to spend money on a denim, cut-off […]
