Welcome to the February edition of Glossies Made Me Do It, a monthly series I am doing with Erika of Cat Eyes & Skinny Jeans and Lauren of Shooting Stars Mag!
As soon as I saw the Red Velvet Heart Cookies on the cover of Better Homes & Gardens, I knew I had to make them. The cookies look like the perfect Valentine’s Day treat. Plus, I love anything red velvet.
I made a few adjustments to the recipe, cutting the sugar in half and consequently not adding the full amount of cocoa. Since I am eating mostly gluten-free, I used gluten free flour instead of all-purpose.
I used a vegetable based red food coloring, so my cookies do not have the bright red like the ones in the magazine.
But, pink velvet cookies are just as tasty! You can find the recipe for the Red Velvet Heart Cookies here or in the February 2017 issue of Better Homes & Gardens.
What have glossies made you do this month?
P.S. Don’t miss January’s edition, Oprah’s Year of Adventure!

It’s the start of a new year and a new blog series! I’m joining forces with Erika of Cat Eyes & Skinny Jeans and Lauren of Shooting Stars Mag to bring you Glossies Made Me Do It, a year of our favorite magazines and what we learned from them. Books, beauty, food, you name it – […]
If you’re following me on Instagram, you may have noticed that April was full of smoothie pics. That’s because I was participating in the 30-Day Green Smoothie Challenge from Simple Green Smoothies. The challenge is simple. You drink one green smoothie a day for 30 days. That’s it. You can still eat whatever you want, whenever you […]
As a rage baker, the kitchen is where I go to de-stress. Whipping up a batch of cookies is a good way to fix a bad day. Also, I’m the type of girl who will sit down and read a cookbook like it’s a novel. Peg Bracken’s The Compleat I Hate To Cook Book is excellent […]
This year I have been trying to eat healthier, which means I have not been baking as much as I have in the past. While cutting back on the sweets has allowed me to experiment with other recipes, sometimes a girl just has to make cookies. Yesterday, a terrible chocolate craving forced me into the […]
When I am stressed, I bake. There is something about banging around in the kitchen concocting tasty treats that I find soothing. Several years ago, I found a fabulous brownie recipe in a magazine. I tucked the recipe safely away in my Binder of Delicious Recipes, and when I moved I made sure that the […]
Ever since I started reading The Cheesecake Queen, I have felt compelled to play around with cheesecake recipes in the hope of creating a cheesecake worthy of the Cheesecake Queen. My mom’s birthday was this week, and she requested a cheesecake. As the necessary ingredients stared me in the face, an idea came to me […]
This post from love. life. eat. got me thinking about pop tarts. Those tasty toaster pastries were a morning staple for many school days, and I still have a fondness for a box of cinnamon or s’mores. Let’s face it. They are not really healthy but neither is this recipe. Ingredients: 1 cup chocolate chips […]
When I get stressed, I bake, and I was very stressed out this week. However, the pantry was, also, going through its own crisis and could only offer a random assortment of products for my baking needs. Following the advice of Tim Gunn, I made it work. Behold The Pudding Cake. In the words of […]
I’m taking my end of summer frustrations out in the kitchen. Summer, how can you be so short? Oh, well. At least this pie is a yummy way to celebrate the end of the season. Ingredients: 3 lemons 1/3 cup honey 1 cup sugar 1 tbsp butter 1 tsp vanilla 2 tbsp flour 4 eggs […]
